About Arlington Urban Ministries
Arlington Urban Ministries (AUM) was formed in 1997 as an extended arm of the United Methodist Churches of Arlington. AUM became a 501(c)(3) organization in 2002. AUM has evolved into an ecumenical ministry that is supported by many denominations and civic groups.
At its inception, AUM focused on youth activities within the community. As AUM evolved, other programs were developed to meet the needs of the community, such as emergency financial assistance, food pantry, Bicycle Ministry, and the Laundromat Ministry. With volunteer support from the community, AUM grew into a store front ministry, serving persons in transition or crisis. AUM first opened in a tiny space within the Goodwill Store on Park Row, then to a small office on South Cooper, and now to its current home at 701 Dugan Street.
AUM is governed by a 20-member Board of Directors. The Mission Office and the Nu2U Resale Store are managed by full and part-time staff.
